Physical characteristics

  • The main valve is a hydraulically operated diaphragm valve; the operating energy is provided by the medium itself.
  • Most valve types operate purely hydraulically, without any external energy supply.

Application

  • Application in drinking water (other media on request)
  • Reduction of pressure peaks in the event of a power failure during pump operation

Mode of operation

  • The surge relief valve is installed near a pump at the outlet of a pressure pipeline. During controlled start-up and shutdown of pumping systems, no harmful pressure surges occur. In the event of a power failure, however, the abrupt stopping of the pump can cause dangerous pressure surges in the system, which may result in severe damage to the installation.
  • The surge relief valve can reduce these pressure surges by opening during the low-pressure wave so that it is fully open when the high-pressure wave returns, allowing the excess pressure to be discharged to atmosphere.

Product information

  • For sizing the valve, please provide us with the following information:
  • Static pressure upstream of the valve with the pump switched off
  • Pump operating pressure
  • Flow rates
  • Water hammer calculations
  • Existing pipe diameters

Design

  • Design according to DIN EN 1074
  • Face-to-face dimensions according to DIN EN 558
  • Flanschenmasse nach DIN 1092-2, bis PN 25 DN 300
  • Pressure ratings: PN 10 or PN 16 up to DN 300
  • Flange dimensions according to DIN EN 1092-2, up to PN 25 / DN 300
  • Nominal sizes 1 ½’’ and 2’’ with threaded connection (female thread)
  • Medium temperature up to 40 °C

Installation and assembly

  • Shut–off valves should be fitted on both sides of the valve and a dirt trap should be installed on the inlet side of the valve. Depending on the installation situation, a mounting/dismounting adapter should be provided.

Vantages

  • Maintenance-free, non-rusting valve seat
  • Pressed-in seat
  • EWS-coating according to RAL GSK

Caution

  • Dimension H1 is increased by 110 mm up to DN 100 and by 130 mm from DN 125 to DN 300 with electrical position indicator and opening limiter.
